Life in Gotham

balancing life as an activist and musician in NYC

May 1st and Beyond

Not all conspiracy theories require a tin foil hat and a lack of common sense.  Some conspiracy theories have proven to be fact.  In the case of Occupy Wall Street, it has been proven that there was an involvement by government agencies to subvert, discredit, ignore, and smear.  Activists both new and seasoned have been stigmatized and corporate media has made no secret of their efforts to label protesters as unemployed, anarchic, drug addled, and otherwise lost youth.  This is untrue.

We are living in an interesting time.  Arguably one of the most prophetic times in recorded history.  People are beginning to see that there is an alternative to the status quo.

When Occupy camps across the world were attacked and dismantled in large numbers, what was the reason?  Was this because simultaneously all world governments, both national and local all at once decided to suspend the population’s human right to speech?  Was there another reason?  We can theorize indefinitely about the cause but I believe that the reason is very clear.  As camps were set up across the world, the general population of humanity began to see, accept, and believe that in fact another world is possible.  A world built on shared sacrifice and self sufficiency rather than greed and corruption.

What worries the elites of the world?  People realizing their power and rising to the occassion.  People of the world are stronger in their unity than any government no matter how tyrannical it is.

In New York City it is nearly impossible to go anywhere without seeing propaganda aimed towards the May 1st General Strike.  In every borough, in every neighborhood, on every train, look around and you will see it everywhere.  It is approximately 2 weeks until May 1st.  What will happen on this day?  Corporate media will likely spout phrases like “occupy returns” “occupy comes back” and things of that nature but the truth of course is not found in corporate media.  The truth is Occupy never left.  Since September 17, 2011, every day people have been migrating towards the cause.  The size and scope of what occupy has become is immeasurable.

There will always be naysayers, there will always be skeptics, your roll is only to participate in life and think for yourself.

Whether Occupy remains OWS in name or not is ultimately unimportant.  What is important is the change in thinking that people have experienced and will continue to explore.  People are becoming aware that another world is in fact possible.  Luckily for the sake of humanity there are people that are willing to spend their lives fighting for the opportunity for all of us to experience just that.

Following the actions of May 1st, the next global day of action is on December 21, 2012.  Is this the change the world has been waiting for?  No promises, only opportunity.

This is an internal memo between an employee and US Bancorp’s Security Department.  Names have been removed.  These incidents are from 2006.  The outcome of this?  Nothing.  Just upset customers with no retribution, and one fired employee for whistle blowing.

I myself have been a victim of excessive police force. For this reason I understand from a first hand perspective how dehumanizing it is. What I have witnessed recently is an insult to the Constitution of The United States of America. Make no mistake about it, your first amendment rights are on the line.

The signs of the times in Gotham are all around us.  After the Occupiers marched on Times Square, there was an occupation at Washington Square Park.  Two members held a large banner over the crowd that read: “Paradigm Shift”.  That it was, and what it is becoming is much more invigorating.

My Experience with Occupy Wall Street

In Brooklyn tonight I heard multiple conversations about Occupy Wall Street, the movement against financial greed of the mega rich 1% of banks.  This has lead to income inequality and a system repeatedly failing the population of our country.  All of what I heard and saw tonight was in support of the movement.
